Flashing lights and gates to be installed at Railroad crossing
State Representative Bo Mitchell reports, "I'm happy to share the news that CSX has alerted TDOT of their plan to start installation of flashing lights and gates at the dangerous McCrory Lane railroad crossing this week. Also, the TDOT roadway project for improvements along Highway 70 has been awarded to contract. Construction activity started last month with a projected completion of early spring 2018."
Chaffins Inn and Dinner Theatre could be just what the area needs to fix problems with Diner property
A proposal brought before the Harpeth Valley Road area neighborhood residents Saturday morning could be just what the area needs to solve the problem of the Larry's Country Diner property. Construction of the Diner stopped last year and the property has been sitting there for some time.
Norma Luther, the new owner of Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theater met with the neighbors to talk about a prospective new development in which she would purchase the Larry's Country Diner property as well as Ed Polk's and Steven Foster's property adjacent to it for the development. Polk's property has the TVA lines running through it and flood plain, so it has limited usage. It would be used as parking and greenspace with trails and park areas for residents to use. Foster's property which currently has two houses, would be the site of a 50 room boutique style hotel.
This project would require some rezoning to connect all the moving parts as well as support from the neighbors. The residents at the meeting overwhelmingly voted in favor of the development.
Because of the way Larry's Country Diner was constructed, to film the TV show, it is a perfect fit for the theater. The only thing that would need to change on the building is to add a dressing room area onto the west side of the already constructed building, according to Luther.
Luther also said that the restaurant portion would be open for lunch and dinner on days when there are no shows. It will be available for rental for events and meetings as well as fundraisers.
Luther is having to move Chaffin's Barn from the Highway 100 location because the 50+ year old building is in need of major repairs and to bring it up to codes for today's standards would be cost prohibitive. The current Barn property would most likely be used as parking and possibly a medical or office building site.
Also included in the meeting was discussion of a traffic light at Harpeth Valley Road and Highway 70 S. Traffic and Parking now believes one is needed there and Councilwoman Sheri Weiner will start the process to make that happen.

Death and Swat both determined not to be of danger to residents
Investigators say that there are no signs of foul play and no concerns to the public on either of the incidents that happened in Bellevue recently. The medical examiner is conducting the investigation concerning the incident of the young man found on Old Hickory Boulevard on Saturday, September 16, but at this time it appears as a medical condition or some other cause of death and foul play is not suspected.
The standoff between the man and SWAT on Sunday, September 17 was resolved an no one was hurt.

New townhomes on Charlotte near Old Hickory Boulevard
Silo Residential LLC will go before the Metro Planning Commission on September14 seeking specific plan residential zoning for 2.93 acres at 7341 Charlotte Pike, east of Old Hickory Boulevard to build 27-townhomes. This is property between Gower Elementary School and Nashville International Academy. If approved construction could start in the beginning of next year, meaning they could be ready for occupation next summer. Prices of the 1,600 to 2,300 square feet square are expected to start around $300,000s.
Charlotte Pike Townhomes is expected to feature 17 three-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom townhomes in four up to three stories tall buildings. Plans also call for 75 parking spaces and amenities such as space for community gatherings.
Metro Councilwoman Sheri Weiner will share more on this project as soon as information is available.

RUMOR....."I heard today that there is a hold up building the ice rink in Bellevue. Metro wants to take over management from the Predators so contracts have not been finalized. If this is true, this is a terrible idea. Metro has let the Centennial fall into disrepair and is often understaffed. If the Predators run the Bellevue ice like they do the Ford Ice Center in Hickory Hollow, it won't cost the city, the Preds organization will keep it staffed, and the Ford or other endorsements will maintain the building and ice."

The Predators do have management responsibilities of the ice portion. That has not changed. Metro has oversight and management of the community center portion. Metro maintains oversight of the entire project because Metro is who put up the bonds and the predators are a lessee."
